First observed in 1889 in support of workers’ demands for decent labour conditions, it is still celebrated throughout Europe on 1 May. Expect some store and restaurant closures, but, since this is a “ponte” weekend, many people will also take Friday off to have a mini-break, so you’ll have no trouble supporting local businesses!
